Outriders is much more like Gears of War in this sense, it wants to tell a story and while you can come along for the ride, you can’t get off the rails and change it.
Though you get to pick their face and hair, the Outrider is a fully scripted character. This is helped by the fact the game wants to tell your Outrider’s story in a fairly focussed way.
